Event Overview

This wedding took place at a backyard beach house in Malibu, California for Amanda & Brandon. I worked for The One Up Group at this wedding and I provided my DJ & MC services for their ceremony, cocktail, and reception. Originally, the wedding was supposed to be at the Malibu West Beach Club next door, but the couple decided to have it here instead. Later did I find out that this mansion is the same property that was used in Disney’s Hannah Montana show. It’s the same beach house used in the show.

The Wedding - Ceremony

The ceremony took place behind the mansion on the sand. Before they set up the chairs, there was a dancefloor on the sand because afterward, they’re going to flip the area into the dinner reception. The chairs are facing the beach. Although it was bright and sunny, the temperature was just perfect and the sound of the ocean waves in the back made it a beautiful experience. For my DJ setup, I was placed on the patio on the back part of the wall. I only had to use one setup because the ceremony was near enough for my speaker sound to reach the guests.

The Wedding - Cocktail Hour

The cocktail hour took place inside the mansion and on the patio deck while the staff was transforming the ceremony area into the dinner reception. Guests also took some pictures on the beach as the sun was slowly going down. I played a good mix of music that got people grooving, dancing, and bobbing their heads.

The Wedding - Reception

The sun was about to set as we welcomed guests to their seats. Remind you, the dinner tables are all on the sand so guests were welcomed to remove their shoes and get comfy on the beach. I can imagine this unique experience as guests were able to feel the sand between their toes at a wedding! I’m sure this helped create a relaxed vibe to it all, too.

We proceeded with the grand entrance, first dance, welcome speech, dinner, toasts, parent dances, open dancing, and a live performance from the band. The bride’s uncle brought the band with him and they played some country song hits that got people up and dancing on the dance floor. It almost felt like Stagecoach 2020 :P Before the wedding started, I coordinated with the band with the whole setup and they plugged their system into my digital audio mixer. Then during the wedding, we coordinated when the band plays. The band had 2 sets and I played some dance music in-between.

The Wedding - After Party

Unfortunately, we had to lower the music volume after 10pm because we’re still in a residential area. So we brought the party inside the mansion where the cocktail hour was held. We still had the beach doors opened and all what I did was place one of my speakers inside. I also had my uplights inside which created a nice effect and transformed the room into a nice party area.

The couple didn’t really give me a playlist and I just went with the vibe that they wanted — club vibes. Now it was my time to shine because we didn’t have any more wedding formalities or the band playing, I could just focus on mixing music for the next 2 hours. I played a mixture of EDM, hip hop, and other club-style music. We ended at 12am!

Conclusion

I received so many compliments from the guests and they had an amazing time. Everything went smoothly and was full of chill yet fun party vibes. We didn’t get any complaints from the neighbors regarding the sound. I think it was because the sound of the ocean waves drowned the noise of my music. We ended at 12am and finished packing up all of my gear by around 1:45am. I got home at 3:00am. I came home tired, but yet, felt a great sense of accomplishment that everything turned out super fun for Amanda and Brandon.

Congrats again, Amanda & Brandon!
