A Wedding DJ's Guide to Twin Oaks House & Gardens

Twin Oaks House & Gardens in San Marcos is one of those venues I know the way you know your own living room. I'm Joe, the DJ behind DJ MOJOE, a preferred vendor at Twin Oaks, and I've DJed weddings here again and again: Linda and Craig's celebration, Nikki and Dani's stormtrooper surprise, Cecilia and Gener's high-energy night, and Maci and Tyler's 140-guest wedding, ceremony through last song. This guide comes from all of them.

What makes Twin Oaks special for a wedding?

It gives you the whole wedding day in one place. It's a garden estate on the Trademark Venues roster, and the arc runs without anyone getting in a car:

• A beautiful outdoor ceremony site
• Gardens that hold a cocktail hour
• A reception space that genuinely fills up and stays full

The venue team runs a tight operation, so vendors who know the property can make the day feel effortless.

That last part matters more than it sounds. A venue you love on the tour still has acoustics, timing quirks and layout decisions that only reveal themselves on real wedding days. I've worked dozens of them here.

How does the ceremony work at Twin Oaks?

Two things get handled at every Twin Oaks ceremony, and both happen before a guest sits down:

• Coordination. I talk with your officiant first, so microphones, music cues and the unplugged announcement, if you want one, are settled in advance.
• Timing. I time the processional so you walk down the aisle to the exact moment in your song that you imagined, not roughly near it.

At Cecilia and Gener's wedding, we opened with an unplugged announcement so guests experienced the ceremony instead of filming it. Their photographer thanked me afterward.

What about cocktail hour and the reception?

Cocktail hour at Twin Oaks spreads guests through the gardens, so I run a wireless satellite speaker out there while the main system stays staged at the reception. Music follows your guests. There's never a dead zone or an awkward silence between chapters of the day.

For the reception I bring the same rig I bring to every wedding: Meyer Sound ULTRA-X40 loudspeakers and a BassBoss subwoofer, with lighting that reacts to the music in real time.

At Maci and Tyler's wedding, that meant 140 guests hearing every toast clearly and a dance floor that stayed packed to the end.

At Linda and Craig's, the couple placed my booth in the middle of the room. I loved it. Reading the floor from the center let me steer the energy song by song, through Top 40, hip hop, classics, Soca and EDM, on a Thursday night that partied like a Saturday.

Can you personalize the fun?

Twin Oaks couples keep proving you can. Three moments from weddings I worked here:

• Nikki hired stormtroopers through Firestorm Talent as a surprise for Dani, a lifelong Star Wars fan, and we choreographed the reveal into the reception.
• Cecilia and Gener ran a scavenger hunt game that had every table competing.
• Cecilia and Gener's anniversary dance ended with the longest-married couple in the room sharing marriage advice.
