Fun Wedding Vibes at Knollwood Country Club

This video captures some fun highlights from Mary & Jay's wedding at the Knollwood Country Club!

On September 8, 2018, I had the pleasure to DJ and host Mary and Jay's wedding at the Knollwood Country Club. As one of the preferred vendors at the venue, I can say that this is a great place to host an event. That evening, I was in charge of playing music during the cocktail hour and entertaining their guests during the reception.

As for equipment goes, I used my RCF EVOX 8 speakers with my LED Moving Heads and ADJ Dotz Tpar for lighting. My couple also requested uplights and I set up 18 Ape Labs Maxi uplights around the room. All of my lights are synced to my lighting software SoundSwitch which really created a fun party vibe throughout the room. I was also able to connect my secondary laptop to the venue's in-house TV system, so I played their Proposal video on there, and when it's time to dance, I had my own background dance video that I play.

For the reception itself, we kicked things off with a fun grand entrance. Then we heard a Jonny Z original song called "The Happiest Man" which he performed live for their First Dance. We went through the formalities such as the parent dances, bouquet and garter toss.

There were a few things that really made this wedding popping. One, when it was time for them to do their cake cutting, I had the guests form a tunnel as Mary and Jay go under as they make their way to the cake table. This was spontaneous and was my first time doing this! It worked out really well because instead of guests leaving the dance floor, we had them involved for the cake cutting. Second, Jay and Mary had organized a dance-off and this was something that we discussed earlier during the planning stages. We pulled it off and the dancers showed off their amazing dance moves!

For music, I played a mixture of everything that would get their guests dancing and they mainly left the music up to me. I played music such as Latin, group dances, 90s, 00s, and some EDM!

Overall, this was such a great wedding and a super fun and sweet couple. It was a pleasure being their DJ and MC.

Congrats, Jay & Mary!

Hummingbird Nest Ranch Wedding

This video captures some highlights of Lindsey's and Tony's wedding at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch! Watch till the very end for the 5-star review!

On June 22, 2018, I had the pleasure to DJ and host Lindsey and Tony's wedding at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch. This was my 3rd time working at the venue and it's always exciting to work there. That evening, I was in charge of the cocktail hour behind the villa and the reception that took place in front of the villa.

I entertained about 270-280 guests with the majority being a younger crowd. I warmed up the dance floor and played some jams while people were having dinner. This set the tone of the night and got people up on their feet to groove to the beat. After some of the wedding formalities, we did a sparkler entrance! This was a twist! Usually, couples have a sparkler exit at the end of the night, but we switched things up and did a sparkler entrance onto the dance floor! This kicked off the dance party and I started off with Chris Brown's "Yeah 3x". This got everybody hyped and in a great mood! It quickly became a party and the wedding was LIT! We even got Lindsey and Tony lifted up in chairs at one point in the night!

Overall, it was a fun and successful night. We ended the party at 12:30am and there were a good amount of people still with us that night. Lindsey and Tony had an amazing time, and I had a blast as their DJ as I got to play some of those club bangers that you normally don't hear at a wedding. Thank you, Lindsey & Tony, for having me as your DJ and making your night unforgettable!

Beautiful Camarillo Ranch House Wedding!

*Keep Reading Below for a Wedding Tip!*

On October 28, 2017, I DJed my friends' wedding at the Camarillo Ranch House in Camarillo, CA. This was a Filipino wedding of about 200 people. I knew the couple from California State University of Northridge where we joined FASA together. It was such a great pleasure and honor to have been asked to DJ/MC for their wedding several years later.

It was my 3rd time DJing at the Camarillo Ranch House, and it's such a great property. They had their wedding ceremony at the gazebo and their cocktail on the other side of the building. At another wedding I DJed, the couple had their ceremony by the huge Oak tree (I believe that's the right kind of tree). As far as I know, there are 2 ceremony sites on property that the wedding couple choose; both equally gorgeous.

To get in detail with my DJ setup for both ceremony and cocktail areas, I used 1 speaker at each location and it was enough acoustically to project clear sound for everybody to hear. I used my new QSC K8.2 speakers on a speaker stand and running an iPod for music. For the microphone, I used a Shure GLXD24 wireless system.

Later on that evening, we invited guests over inside the barn for the reception. They decorated and designed the place so well that it looked like their wedding could be in a magazine. Below is a photo of what the reception looked like. And yes, I took this photo! #joeriveraphotography haha

The reception program was fun and different! For the grand entrance, we lined the sponsors and wedding party outside. After introducing the sponsors in, I played "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys and during the beat intro, I announced all the names of the bridal party and bride and groom and they all walked inside together at the chorus of the song. It was epic! Great decision to do this on the bride's part. Right after, Gizzelle & Matthew danced to their first dance song "I Swear" by All-4-One then went to a surprise choreographed dance with their wedding party to the song "The Moustache Song". It was great!

We enjoyed a delicious dinner, heard some great speeches, and witnessed the parent dances. What was unique about the parents' dances was that they had their friend, Carizza, sing the songs. She communicated with me days before the wedding and gave me the instrumental tracks that she will be singing to. For the Father & Daughter dance, she sang "Have I Told You Lately" and for the Mother & Son dance, she sang, "More Than You'll Ever Know". Having someone sing during the wedding reception added a nice personalized touch.

Afterwards, we continued the night with a first dance set catered to the Filipino crowd who love to line dance. I played songs such as "Cha Cha Slide", "Electric Slide", "Dancing Queen", and some disco. Then, we took a quick break for our bride and groom to do the cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss, and the Filipino money dance tradition. After the formalities, we continued to dance the night away with some hip hop, top 40, and fun, upbeat music. It was nothing but great vibes.

At the end of the night, we sent our newlyweds off by having a grand balloon farewell! We had all of the guests make 2 lines outside of the barn and hold a balloon. Our happy couple held even bigger balloons and at the count of three, they walked between the 2 lines of guests with their balloons. At the end of the tunnel, everybody released their balloons at the same time. Fortunately, I was able to capture all of this on my Snapchat video which you can watch below!

WEDDING TIP: Hire your videographer to last until the end of the reception. Some of the most memorable things happen towards the end once everybody is loosened up.

All-in-all, everybody had an amazing time, especially our bride and groom. Thank you, Gizzelle and Matthew for having me as your wedding DJ!

Filipino-Latin American Wedding at McCormick Home Ranch!

On August 5, 2017, I DJed the wedding of Courtney & Jesus at the McCormick Home Ranch in Camarillo, CA. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding. Their ceremony took place at the backyard and their reception on the grass lawn on front. This was a Filipino-Latin American wedding, so I played various styles of fun upbeat music for everybody to dance to. I played some bangers such as Mi Gente, This is How We Do It, Suavemente, and La Vida Es Un Carnival. We finished the night with "Everything" by Michael Buble as we gathered everybody to make a circle around the bride and groom. Everyone danced the whole night and had an amazing time. Thank you Courtney & Jesus for having me as your DJ!

I announced their grand entrance in the style of the Chicago Bulls Theme Song! They had a choreographed first dance! They had a Soul Train line as a way for guests to make their way to the cake table! We even took an impromptu group video towards the end to wrap up the night. Every one had an amazing time, especially our bride and groom. Thank you Mary Grace & Patrick for having me as your DJ! Enjoy!
